AI agent development for Australian and New Zealand businesses
We design and build custom AI agents for business: software that reads, decides and acts across your existing tools to complete repetitive tasks, such as triaging email, updating records, preparing reports or drafting content. Each agent has defined limits and an accountable owner, and a person approves anything consequential.
Vermilion Intelligence is an AI and automation consultancy helping mid-to-large organisations in Australia and New Zealand put AI agents to work on repetitive tasks.
What AI agents can do for your business
AI agent development is the core of what we do. An agent is given a job, the information and systems it needs, and clear rules about what it may and may not do. It works through the task the way a careful person would, and hands back to a person when it's unsure.
Agents are most useful where work is repetitive but not perfectly predictable: reading emails and documents, choosing the next step, and updating the right system.
Triage inboxes and requests
Read incoming emails, forms and tickets, work out what each one needs and route or action it.
Update records
Create and update records in your CRM, ERP, practice or helpdesk system from emails, documents and calls.
Prepare documents
Draft quotes, letters, summaries and standard documents from your templates for a person to check.
Research and summarise
Gather information from your systems or approved sources and summarise it in a consistent format.
Follow up
Track open items and send reminders or chasers so nothing waits on someone remembering.
Hand work between systems
Move information from one tool to the next, so people stop copying and re-keying it.
Build reports
Pull figures together on a schedule and write a plain-English summary of what changed.
How it works
How we build an AI agent
Step 1: Define the job
We agree exactly what the agent does, what it doesn't, the measure of success and who owns it.
Step 2: Design the guardrails
We set its permissions, approval points, escalation rules and the log of everything it does.
Step 3: Build and integrate
We connect it to your existing tools and test it against real examples of the work.
Step 4: Launch and monitor
It starts with close human review, and we widen its scope only as it proves reliable.
AI agent vs chatbot vs RPA: which do you need?
The three are often confused. Here's the plain difference.
AI agent
Works towards a goal across several steps and systems. It reads, decides the next step within set limits, takes actions and hands back to a person when unsure. Suited to varied, repetitive work.
Chatbot
Answers questions in a conversation, usually from a knowledge base. It responds rather than acts, unless it's connected to systems, at which point it's becoming an agent.
RPA (robotic process automation)
Follows fixed, scripted steps, such as clicking through screens or copying fields. Reliable for perfectly predictable tasks, but it breaks when inputs vary.
Often, a mix
Many good solutions combine rules-based automation for predictable steps with an AI agent for the steps that need reading or judgement.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is an AI agent?
An AI agent is software that uses an AI model to work towards a goal: it reads information, decides the next step within limits you set, and takes actions in your systems, such as updating a record or drafting a reply. Unlike a simple script, it can handle varied inputs, and it hands back to a person when it isn't confident.
What's the difference between an AI agent, a chatbot and RPA?
A chatbot answers questions in a conversation. RPA follows fixed, scripted steps and breaks when inputs change. An AI agent works towards a goal across several steps and systems, adapting to varied inputs within set limits. Many practical solutions combine RPA-style rules for predictable steps with an agent for the judgement calls.
Can AI agents work with our existing CRM or ERP?
Usually, yes. Most modern CRMs and ERPs, such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Dynamics 365, NetSuite or MYOB, offer APIs that agents can use securely. Older systems can often be reached through exports, email or a database connection. We confirm what's possible for your systems during the readiness assessment, before anything is built.
How do you stop an AI agent doing something it shouldn't?
Each agent gets the minimum access it needs, a written list of what it may and may not do, and approval steps before anything consequential, such as sending to customers or moving money. Everything it does is logged, an owner can pause it at any time, and it starts under close human review.
